Slovenia's dramatic mountain landscape is a hiker's paradise. Known for magnificent snow-capped peaks, deep gorges, and impressive limestone towers, the Julian Alps are less traveled but no less beautiful than other European Alps. Tucked between Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Croatia, Slovenia is also known for traditional alpine villages, complete with gothic castles, karst limestone, and a culture and cuisine that is fascinating. Our journey takes us through Triglav National Park, along the shores of Lake Bohinj, through the rugged Julian Alps, and across the emerald waters of the Soča Valley. Along the way, we’ll immerse ourselves in local traditions, savor regional cuisine, and gain insight into Slovenia’s unique heritage. Once hidden behind the Iron Curtain, Slovenia was among the first provinces of the former Yugoslavia to declare independence—now emerging as a world-class destination with a perfect balance of modern hospitality and untouched natural beauty. With a well-developed infrastructure and unspoiled charm, there’s no better time to explore Slovenia. Maximum group size: 14
