Trip Info

This trip is designed for active women who enjoy spending time outdoors in winter. Skiing is optional, though guests will get the most out of the trip if they’re comfortable being active for several hours each day. Most days offer both shorter and longer trail options, typically involving 3–6 hours on rolling terrain with occasional hills and varied snow conditions. Guests who ski regularly—or who maintain good general fitness through activities like brisk walking, running, hiking, or skiing several times per week—will be best prepared to take advantage of the full range of routes. Instruction and shorter loops are available for those who prefer a lighter day, but the trip is most enjoyable for participants who have good stamina, balance, and the ability to carry their own gear on the trails, and who are comfortable being active outdoors in winter conditions.

Itinerary

Below is the proposed itinerary for the trip. As is true on any adventure travel trip, plans for any specific day may be modified due to weather considerations, unforeseen circumstances, new opportunities, and group interests.

DAY 1
Your adventure begins with a morning hotel pickup at 8am near Seattle–Tacoma International Airport before heading east across the Cascade Mountains. As the drive unfolds, the landscape gradually shifts from dense evergreen forests to the open, rolling terrain of eastern Washington. We’ll pause for a relaxed lunch in Chelan before continuing the scenic journey into the Methow Valley and the small mountain community of Mazama..

After arriving, you’ll have time to change into your ski gear and get fitted for rental equipment if needed. An instructor will introduce the basics in a nearby practice area, giving everyone a chance to get comfortable on skis. From there, beginners can continue practicing on gentle terrain, while more experienced skiers may head out to explore the surrounding groomed trails, known for their wide-open meadows and easy-to-follow loop routes.

Later in the afternoon, we make our way to the welcoming Inn at Mazama, where you’ll settle in for the first of three nights. Keep an eye out for local wildlife along the way! In the evening, we’ll gather for a short orientation before enjoying a catered welcome dinner together, a perfect way to relax after the day’s journey and start getting to know the group.

Included Meals: Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Inn at Mazama
Travel Time: Driving (~4 hours with stops)
Daily Activities: Scenic Cascade crossing, equipment fitting, warm-up ski (optional), orientation meeting
DAY 2
Begin the day with an optional indoor stretch session to loosen up before breakfast and another day on the trails. Those who would like a little extra guidance can join a short morning lesson focused on refining technique, whether you prefer classic or skate skiing. Afterward, we set out to explore a beautiful section of the Methow Community Trail, one of the valley’s signature routes. This scenic trail links Mazama with sweeping views of open meadows and the nearby river, and includes a crossing of the well-known suspension bridge along the way. The terrain is mostly gentle with a few rolling sections, making it a great opportunity to build confidence and enjoy the rhythm of the trail.

By midday we’ll make our way back toward Mazama for lunch at the charming Mazama Country Store, a local favorite known for its relaxed atmosphere and tasty options. The afternoon is intentionally flexible. You might soak in the hot tub at the inn, head out for a peaceful snowshoe, or continue skiing with an out-and-back trip on nearby trails such as the route toward Base Camp.

In the evening, dinner is on your own at Mazama Public House, a lively and welcoming gathering spot in the heart of the valley. Known for its selection of local craft beers and hearty mountain fare, it’s a great place to unwind after a day on the trails. The relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to share stories from the day’s skiing, warm up with a satisfying meal, and enjoy the friendly energy of this small mountain community.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Accommodations: Inn at Mazama
Travel Time: Driving (minimal, local shuttle only)
Daily Activities: Suspension Bridge ski (~5 miles), optional afternoon ski (~6-8 miles) and optional snowshoeing
DAY 3
After breakfast, we head out to explore the upper Methow Valley on one of the area’s most scenic trail systems. Today’s ski features the River Run Loop and Jack’s Trail, creating a roughly 8 mile journey through a landscape that feels both expansive and peaceful. The trail winds alongside the river before gradually entering a narrower stretch of the valley, where snow-covered cliffs rise above the route and glimpses of the distant Cascade peaks appear between the trees. Along the way, cozy pine forests alternate with wide-open meadows and broad loops that make it easy to settle into a comfortable rhythm. A sunny riverside spot known as “Cow Beach” offers a perfect place to pause and take in the quiet beauty of the winter landscape.

After lunch, you can continue skiing toward Jack’s Hut or hop on the shuttle if you’d prefer a shorter afternoon. The hut is a welcoming stop where many skiers warm up with a cup of hot chocolate before deciding whether to keep exploring the surrounding trails by ski or snowshoe. Later evening, we gather for dinner at Jack’s Hut Pizza & Brews, a local favorite known for its wood-fired pizza and relaxed mountain atmosphere.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodations: Inn at Mazama
Daily Activities: Skiing (~8 miles), optional snowshoeing, hot rub relaxation
DAY 4
After breakfast, we pack up and begin the day’s journey right from the Inn, skiing south along the Methow Community Trail toward Brown’s Farm. This stretch of trail travels through open fields and peaceful riverside landscapes, offering beautiful views of the valley along the way. The distance to Brown’s Farm is about 10 miles, but the pace is flexible—ski as much or as little as you like, with plenty of opportunities to hop in the van if you’d prefer a shorter day. Brown’s Farm is a favorite stop along the trail and a welcoming place to regroup before continuing on.

Depending on conditions and group preference, you may ski up to 6 miles before shuttling into Winthrop, a charming Old West-style town. From there, we ascend to our next destination, Sun Mountain Lodge, perched above the valley with panoramic mountain views.

You’ll have time to stroll along its wooden boardwalks, browse the small local shops, and enjoy a warm lunch in town. In the afternoon, we travel up the ridge to Sun Mountain Lodge, our next home overlooking the Methow Valley. Once you arrive, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy. Relax with a soak in the hot tub, book a massage (based on availability and additional cost) for some extra recovery time, or head out on snowshoes to take in the sweeping mountain views. We’ll gather for dinner later this evening.

Travel Time: Driving (minimal, shuttle transfer to Winthrop)

Stronger skiers may choose longer outings such as the rolling Thompson or Meadowlark loops, while others can enjoy shorter trails like Sunnyside, Beaver Pond, Fox, or Aqua—each offering beautiful scenery and a relaxed pace.

Instruction and technique coaching are available for those looking to refine their skills, and snowshoeing is another great way to explore the snowy landscape. The Chickadee trail system winds through quiet forest, creating a peaceful and intimate skiing experience while still offering options for all abilities.

In the afternoon, choose your adventure: book a horse-drawn sleigh ride, schedule a massage (based on availability and additional cost), or continue exploring the trails. In the evening, we come together for a celebratory farewell dinner.

Surrounded by towering peaks and snowy forest, these trails provide a peaceful setting for a farewell glide through classic North Cascades scenery. With a variety of route options, you can choose a relaxed outing or fit in a few extra kilometers before the journey home.

By late morning we return to the lodge to gather our luggage and prepare for the drive back toward Seattle. Along the way, we’ll stop in the nearby town of Twisp and you'll have time to enjoy lunch.

In the afternoon, we continue the scenic drive west across the Cascades. Wrapping up the trip with tired legs, fresh mountain air in our lungs, and plenty of great memories from a week of skiing in the Methow Valley. We’ll have you back to Seattle by 6PM, in time for flights out after 8PM.

A Double Accommodation means you will share a room with another participant. You will still have your own bed. Shared beds can be requested but cannot always be accommodated depending upon the property.

Bathrooms: Bathroom arrangements vary depending on the trip and lodging. A single supplement guarantees your own sleeping space but may still include a shared bathroom. Double accommodations typically share a bathroom with a roommate and sometimes additional participants, depending on the property. Private or ensuite bathrooms will be noted in the trip details when available.

Breakfasts are served daily at the lodge clubhouses (Inn at Mazama and Sun Mountain Lodge), with hearty, locally inspired options. Lunches are either provided as packed trail lunches or at local cafés, depending on the day. Dinners are a mix of lodge dining and local restaurants, with some catered group meals. You’ll have opportunities to enjoy regional specialties and refuel after skiing or snowshoeing.

If we know well in advance, we can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, and gluten-sensitive diets. We cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free environment, so participants with severe allergies or Celiac disease should contact our office before registering and may wish to bring personal snacks or supplemental meals.

Methow Valley trails are mostly groomed and well-maintained, weaving through forests, open meadows, and along rivers. Terrain varies from flat beginner-friendly loops to rolling hills with moderate elevation gain. Trails may have icy or snowy patches, so proper winter footwear and layered clothing are recommended. Guides will support participants on more challenging sections.

In addition to skiing, you can choose to snowshoe on quieter forest trails, relax in hot tubs, enjoy the panoramic views from lodge decks, or take a horse-drawn sleigh ride. These activities are designed to provide downtime, rest, and a chance to experience the Methow Valley from a different perspective while enjoying the winter scenery.
