Two holidays down, one to go! As 2013 approaches, fresh starts and new habits are on the minds of many including our nation’s state parks. The organization, America’s State Parks is hosting its 2nd annual First Day Hikes event on Tuesday January 1, 2013. America’s State Parks First Day Hikes offer individuals and families an opportunity to begin the New Year rejuvenated and connected with the outdoors by taking a healthy hike on January 1, 2013 at a state park. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family. Currently there are 627 First Day Hikes and ALL 50 state park systems are participating. State park staff and volunteers will lead the hikes, which average one to two miles or longer depending on the state park.
