Adventures in Good Company has been offering active travel adventures for women since 1999. The vision and foundation of AGC goes back to 1977 and the work of Woodswomen. Offering wilderness journeys, adventure vacations, skills trips, and outdoor leadership programs, Woodswoman was the first company to provide outdoor trips and education exclusively to women. In 1982, they led the first women’s guided descent of the Noatak River in Alaska and in 1988 guided a successful climb of Mt. McKinley with seven women summiting. Woodswomen was also a leader in training female outdoor guides; Marian Marbury, AGC’s founder, being one of them. When Woodswomen closed its doors, Marian was determined to continue to offer these essential trips for women and thus AGC was born. Many of our travelers have been on both Woodswomen and AGC trips and several of our AGC guides started their outdoors careers with Woodswomen and now continue to guide with AGC. After 20 years of steadily and thoughtfully growing AGC, Marian was ready to retire and pass the torch. In January 2020, Kelly Kimple became the new owner, continuing the commitment to the vision and philosophy, community and camaraderie on which Adventures in Good Company was founded.
All of our guides are experienced outdoorswomen who enjoy teaching and sharing their love of adventure. Our guides' primary focus is to make sure that your trip is fun, while always being mindful of safety, and that you're able to learn whatever skills you are seeking. Our head/lead guides hold current CPR and Wilderness First Responder certifications. To learn more about our guides, visit the Our Team page. For international trips we work in conjunction with local partners, in which case there is typically an AGC guide and the local guide(s).
Yes, and we think the gift of adventure is one of the best you can give! Maybe you have a mom who wants to get outside a little more, or a daughter who deserves a graduation present. Maybe your wife could use some time just for herself. We can provide gift certificates in any amount, for specific trips or for use on any trip she is interested in. Just give us a call or email us.

Absolutely. We would be happy to give you names and emails of people who have agreed to be contacted.
It depends on the trip, but typically we run our adventures with 10-14 participants.
We do our best to follow the planned itinerary, but, as is true on any adventure travel trip, plans for any specific day may be modified due to weather considerations, unforeseen circumstances, new opportunities, and group interests.

Booking Your Adventure

To sign up for a trip, simply click “book now" on the trip’s page and follow the instructions. You will see this pop up: *NOTE: You are not logged in. If you have registered for or taken a trip with us since May 2019, you should have an account. Please click login to access your account and register. Call us at 877-439-4042 with any questions.* If you have never travelled with us before or have not traveled with us since May of 2019, just click “continue" and an account will be created for you after you submit your registration. For domestic trips, a $300 deposit is required. For international, $400. For more details on our payment policies click here.
Is your dream trip full? We encourage you to still register and be put on the waitlist. If someone cancels out of the trip, we will give you a call or email to see if you are still interested. There is no deposit required to be put on the waitlist.
We try to post our trips at least one year before the departure. Sometimes we are able to add new departure dates less than 12 months out. Or, when the opportunity to add a new itinerary is too great to pass up, we just have to add to the roster!
You can book your trip as soon as it's available for registration on the website, and the first five women to register receive a 5% discount! You will find that some of our trips fill up very quickly, and it's difficult to predict which trips those will be on a year to year basis. On the other end of the booking window, if we have a last minute cancellation on a trip, we may send out an email announcement to fill the spot at a discounted rate. Our Trips - Your Way

You might be. Someone has to be the oldest/youngest/heaviest/least in shape person on the trip. And while the great majority of our trips have both single and non-single women, and moms and non-moms, sometimes they don't. But as long as you've chosen a trip that is appropriate for your fitness level, it doesn't matter if you feel different in any of those ways - what you will share with everyone else is a desire to experience adventure in your life, and an appreciation of the joy and camaraderie of being in an all women's group.
Only a few of our trips have camping as some part or all of lodging on the itinerary. The majority are lodge, hotel, or rental house-based. The accommodations for our trips vary as much as our trips do, from bunk rooms to luxurious inns. Read the accommodations section carefully to see if it is right for you.
It depends on both the trip and on your specific needs. With advance notice, we can accommodate most dietary restrictions or allergies on our domestic trips, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten intolerant (we may or may not be able to accommodate Celiac disease). This is not always true on international trips so please contact us in advance if you have specific dietary needs. We've found that if you are willing to bring a couple of items to supplement what is on the menu (ex. peanut butter, sunflower seed butter, etc.) and possibly have less variety than you are used to at home, then dietary needs usually are no obstacle.
We are happy to work with you and your group to coordinate a private trip. Most commonly we utilize an itinerary we already have, but we can also customize an itinerary for your and your group. If we can't customize an itinerary for you, we will try to help you find someone who can. Let us know what you have in mind!

All About the Moola

We do! We give 5% discounts for the first 5 women to sign up for a trip, 5-10% discount for taking a second trip within 180 days, and a $150 credit when you've traveled with us and you refer a friend who completes a trip. For details, visit the Trip Discounts page.
It varies from trip to trip, but the details can always be found in the Trip Summary. Some trips cover all meals, while others have some “on your own". These are explicitly covered, so you will never be surprised. If you have any questions about what is included on a specific trip, please call or email us and we’ll help sort it out for you. Our prices typically do not include travel to and from the trip start and end points. Again, this is clearly identified on the What's Included / Not Included section of the Trip Summary. If you would like assistance with airfare, we recommend contacting our AirDesk Partner, Exito Travel. Make sure to tell them you’re traveling with Adventures in Good Company.
AGC guide gratuities are not covered in the trip cost for domestic trips. If a guide on an international trip is with us for the duration of the trip, those gratuities are also not covered. We do cover tips for day guides on our international trips. For specific details about each trip, refer to the trip summary, or shoot us an email.
Some trips have single rooms available, and if you choose one, you’ll be charged for the cost of a private room. The number available depends on the trip.
The majority of women come on our trips without knowing anyone else on it. You only pay a single supplement if you want to be assured of having a room to yourself. For our standard double accommodations we'll arrange a roommate for you. If you sign up with a friend and want to be sure you share a room for the entire trip, just let us know and we'll be glad to arrange it.

Trip Safety and Insurance

We understand that deciding when to travel next is a personal decision that comes with both excitement and a lot of questions and things to consider, especially now. Our goal is to help you feel comfortable and supported during your adventure. At the same time, there are inherent risks integral to these experiences. We continually assess and manage for risks - as we always do, yet some risks are in our control and others are not. Read more about our Covid specific trip policies and procedures here.
There are inherent risks to travel, just as there are inherent risks to day to day experiences. Yes, summiting Kilimanjaro is riskier than going to the mall, but we are aware of that when we make our travel decisions. You will find that our Trip Summaries are very detailed with respect to mileage, elevation change, and the types of activities each trip will entail. We do our best to minimize risks on our trips, like sending our own guides who hold current CPR and Wilderness First Responder certifications and have a lot of experience mitigating risk in the backcountry.
While we do not require travel insurance on our trips, some of our domestic and international partners do. In any case, we do recommend that our participants get insurance. In today’s changing travel environment, it’s important to protect your trip investment so you can relax and enjoy your trip. Unforeseen events such as flight delays, baggage loss or even an unexpected sickness or injury could impact your travel plans. For your convenience, we offer travel protection through Travelex Insurance Services. For more information on the available plans or to enroll, click here. It is important to note that fear of travel, travel advisories and destinations being inaccessible due to Covid are not covered risks under the Travelex Insurance protection plans. However, insureds are still eligible for Trip Cancellation/Interruption coverage in the event they are prevented from taking their trip due to one of the other reasons listed in their Travelex plan. Trip Ratings & Fitness

Each trip has a different rating level from 1 to 5. These ratings are general guides based on the level of conditioning necessary to enjoy the trip and hours of activity. Each trip description has more specific information. If you’re not sure if a trip is suitable for you, give us a call and we can chat more about it. Because of the flexibility of our itineraries, some trips have more than one rating.
All of our trips are active and the majority require that you engage in some type of regular exercise before the trip. How much exercise? It really depends on the trip. The majority of our trips are suitable for women who exercise 3 to 5 times a week. Our backpacking trips and some of our hiking trips often require some additional conditioning, and our trips rated as 1 or 2 are suitable for anyone who is healthy, generally active, and has no significant mobility limitations. Every trip has a rating that suggests the kind of condition you should be in.
We are aware that "pushing yourself" means different things to different women who have a variety of fitness levels and are in different stages of their life. Assess your own fitness, read the itineraries closely, review our trip ratings and call if you have questions. The hiking and backpacking trips and any trips with a rating of 4 or 5 have inherently higher physical demands. Our best advice is to call us at 1-877-439-4042 and tell us what you do for exercise and what you're looking for.

About Our Participants

Adventures in Good Company strives to be an inclusive organization. We welcome all women (transgender and cisgender) as well as non-binary people who identify with the women’s community. Whatever your race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, background or ability, whether single or partnered, you are welcome here. The majority of travelers are between 40 and 70, with a range from 18 to 87, who come from all over the US and globe. We provide a safe, supportive and noncompetitive approach to adventure travel and believe this approach enhances and develops the potential of every person. About 75% of travelers join our trips on their own, while others travel with someone. We think that the diversity of the individuals who come on our trips is one of the greatest joys of our groups and group travel.
Of course! Many guests sign up for trips by themselves. It’s a great way for solo travelers to come together, share new experiences, make lasting friendships and build community. Most often, people come on their own and leave with many new friends, dreaming of their next AGC adventure together!
You bet, just as long as there are enough spots. If a trip says “limited availability" then there are 3 or few spaces left. If you have more than 3 people wanting to join a trip, give us a call and we can help you find what options are available to you. Depending on your group size, we are also able to create a private trip for most of our itineraries, and also plan Custom Trips. Call us anytime! Equipment

Depends on the trip. Daypacks and trekking poles are required for most of our trips (and optional on other trips), and can be the most expensive items required. Each trip has a customized, detailed packing list. There are multitude of choices for places you can buy or rent gear. REI, Backcountry, Eastern Mountain Sports, or Sierra Trading Post are some of the big ones. Or, support local! Most medium to large cities have their own local stores, such as Trailfitters in Duluth, MN, Outdoor Gear Exchange in Burlington, VT, or The Mountaineer in Keene Valley, NY. Along the Appalachian Trail there are also a slew of outfitters in every state. If you are not sure you want to invest in a lot of new gear, you can rent gear from online services such as Arrive Outdoors, CampCrate, or Feral Mountain Co., Eastern Mountain Sports, or Xscape Pod.

Women choose to travel with us for many reasons. Some come to learn new skills so they can pursue activities on their own, others come to try something new.
