Latin America's biodiversity is legendary. Everyone knows that the Galapago swas where Darwin developed his theory of evolution and that the Amazon Jungle is also rich in wildlife. But fewer people know the extent of Panama's biodiversity (that's why we call it the new Costa Rica). Belize is also rich in birdlife in particular but it is the Mayan ruins and the opportunity to swim, kayak and snorkel in warm and clear water that is the biggest draw. For sheer majesty, though, nothing beats the dramatic Atacama desert and rugged Patagonia landscape of Chile.
